Traitors España is the Spanish edition of the global franchise The Traitors. It is the 10th edition of the show to launch globally, with all eight episodes for its first season released simultaneously on HBO Max on February 3, 2023. The show is produced by Gestmusic, the Spanish subsidiary of Endemol.
The show was rebroadcast on terrestrial TV, on the DMAX channel, in the summer of that year. Despite a good reception from fans and critics, there was no confirmation of a second series until news broke on June 28, 2024 that the Spanish media group Atresmedia had acquired the rights for another go. The relaunched show will air on LaSexta, as part of the network's attempt to refocus the channel from news to entertainment, and feature civilian contestants.[1] On October 29, 2024, El Confidencial reported exclusively that Atresmedia talent and veteran host Juanra Bonet would host the franchise revival, with civilian participants recruited and the new season filming shortly.[2] Sergio revealed that he had wished to returned to host the show after recovering from leukaemia, but Atresmedia had chosen to proceed with Juanra instead.[3]

Trivia[]
- Host Sergio Peris-Mencheta wasn't intended to do the show, and hadn't made the shortlist for either contestant or presenter. A producer happened to have his phone number when working out who would host, and got hold of him.
- To work out how to adapt the format to a Spanish audience, director Nia Sanjuán flew out to the Netherlands to assist with the production of Series 2 of De Verraders, which may explain the odd finale of the first series.
- The show had two terrestrial networks interested in picking up the format. The show went to HBO Max due to their wish for a shorter runtime, their strict Covid protocols and their suggestions for potential contestants: producers said that they expected a bigger network to insist on casting more well-known faces as contestants. Especially on channels such as Telecinco, who have a particular knack for doing this, it often makes viewers less interested.
- A main difference in this version is that Peris-Mencheta never breaks the fourth wall, and his role in missions is supplemented by a narrator.
- This is the first franchise to switch networks and presenters across seasons.
