The Traitors NZ Season 3 is the upcoming third season of The Traitors NZ.
Background[]
After The Traitors NZ was pulled entirely from the ThreeNow streaming service, and amid a funding crisis in New Zealand's TV industry[1] - where most original programming on Three (which had been acquired by Sky New Zealand from Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific for the token sum of NZ$1)[2] was cancelled - it was assumed that the series would no longer continue production.
However, on August 4, 2025, the federal NZ On Air commission announced that up to NZ$1,436,911 had been allocated to fund a new ten-episode season, with the commission specifically citing the series as "one of the best examples of the show internationally." This marked a significant shift from past precedent, in which the commission had refused to fund commercial series.[3]
The New Zealand Herald subsequently confirmed that a new season was in the works, with casting calls opening the same week and filming set to return to the South Island later in 2025. While the funding received was less than half of the show's overall budget, it was still sufficient for it to be greenlit.[4] Although Paul Henry expressed an interest in returning to the show and was production company South Pacific Pictures's preferred choice, he ultimately stepped aside to avoid a potential conflict of interest, having recently been appointed as a director at rival network TVNZ.[5] On August 8, 2025, applications were reopened to the Kiwi public, with filming scheduled to take place over 3 weeks in the last quarter of 2025.[6]
On September 30, 2025, the new host was revealed as comedian and Taskmaster NZ alum Madeleine Sami.[7]
