Maddy Smedley

Madelyn "Maddy" Smedley is a contestant from The Traitors (UK)/Series 1.

Maddy was notable for suspecting early on that Wilf was a Traitor, however was unable to convince any of her fellow Faithfuls of that fact. Although she was initially well liked by the other contestants, she made the mistake of choosing to reveal towards the end that she was an actor, a revelation which put everyone immediately on their guard against her. Soon after, during an task she was deemed by the others to be the one they trusted the least and as a result Claudia offered her £3,000 on the condition she left the show immediately. Maddy declined the money, however this proved to be a mistake and did little to reassure the others. As a result, Maddy was banished very soon after.

Why did you apply to be on this brand-new reality series, what interested you about the concept? I absolutely love crime dramas so when I heard about this show I was really interested and thought oh my god, I could definitely give it a bash.

What is your motivation for taking part in the show? A lot of people think I'm quite ditsy and silly. I want to show people I'm more with it and not to judge me straight away.

What do you think you will bring to the game? Hopefully, a bit of humour! I don’t know, to be honest... I'm a bit nervous. Hopefully some good chat and have fun in the process.

If you are a Traitor, how will you feel? Will you be good at deceiving other people? I think so, I just don't want to laugh! I have done some acting work and in rehearsals I’ve corpsed. However, when it comes down to the nitty gritty - I'm always alright on the night.

If you're a Faithful, what will your game plan be? How good are you at spotting a liar? Not very good but I'll try my hardest. Obviously after watching all of 24 Hours In Police Custody I think I can tell if someone is genuine! Maybe or maybe not. I love people... every job that I've done has been working with people.

How far are you prepared to go to win? I think I've come quite far already, I’m in Inverness! I like people and I always try and find the good in people. So that's going to be the hard bit; to see them all as snakes in the grass.

What would you do with the prize money, if you did win? My mum has brought us up on her own and when we were younger, we were in a council house and I feel like I’ve owed her a lot of money over the years, so I’d love to give her some of the money. I feel like my mum's always been so selfless and I’d love to give her some back.^[1]

Maddy guest starred in a sketch parodying The Traitors together with castmate and in-game antagonist Wilfred Webster for Red Nose Day 2023.
Maddy subsequently guest starred in Hollyoaks as talent agent Faye Fuller (with the name being a pun on Faithful).
On September 28, 2023, Maddy announced that she had given birth to a daughter with partner Tom, Shelby Rae.
