Why did you apply to be on this brand-new reality series? What interested you about the concept? The concept was obviously very appealing. I'm also coming to the end of my long and wonderful career in education. I've been at the same establishment for 29 years. I worked myself through the steps, I started on the ground floor and every five years my job evolved, where now I'm at the top of my game, I'm on the senior leader team. It's taken me a while to get there, however, I've always said that I'm going to retire at 60 and I'm 60 next February...people are shocked when I tell them that.

What’s your motivation for taking part in the show? The real motivation is that I need to know for me personally, if I can do anything else. I've been doing this job for nearly 30 years, half my life. I play national league basketball too so aside from work and my sports, what can I do next? What am I going to do with all the knowledge that I've put together over the years? Am I the sort of person that can go out there and do something different? That's the motivation for me. The concept of being a Traitor, what a title. I've always been faithful, so to put myself in a situation now where for the first time in my life I might have to be something quite ruthless and different, that's exciting. Honestly, I can't contain myself! I'm 100 percent attendance at work year in year out year and the reality is, that’s coming to an end. I’ve got to do this for me. I'm away from my partner for the first time in our 17 years of being together, we’ve never been apart, we just don't do it. I need to find myself and I think this will make me grow as a person. I really do, I'm up for the challenge.

Do you have a game plan? I thought I would because I always thought I would be a Faithful. But now, I don't want to be a Faithful. I would love to be a Traitor, I think you have to have more of a game plan if you are one.

If you're a Traitor, how will you feel? How good is your poker face? I'm an ex-basketball player, I've travelled to different countries involved with basketball, I was a part of the 2012 Olympic team with the Australians. You have to have a bit of integrity, working with those high-level professionals, but because I was a basketball player you have to have a poker face. When you’re out there, whether you're winning or losing, your opposition cannot know what you’re thinking.

How far are you prepared to go to win the game? I've got a competitive streak. I'm down all the way because at the end of the day this is all about me, it's never been about me for 30 years.

If you're a Faithful, what will your game plan be? If you’re a Faithful, you would have to be very quick to pick out the Traitors. You’ll have to make a good impression at the start otherwise you'll be banished straightaway. Empathy is the number one thing, and you have to have empathy in my job because otherwise it's pointless you being there, you have to put yourself in those young people's shoes 100 percent. So, this game suits me down to a tee.

What would you do with the prize money if you won? I don't even know how much the prize money is! I’d go on a wonderful holiday.^[1]
