As an executive concierge at hotels in Melbourne, Dirk knows how to read someone quickly to work out what they want. He has looked after everyone from royal families to celebrities and is used to telling white lies to keep his clients happy. He likes to compare himself to a swan saying: “I’m super graceful up top and furiously kicking underneath the water”.

Dirk is also a cabaret performer and actor and believes being the youngest of his siblings has helped him feel comfortable in social circles and find his own way to stand out.

He doesn’t want his fellow players to know he has an acting background, but Dirk is also looking forward to using some of his skills to move him forward in the game. He says: “You have to hide your emotions and feelings and portray something that is not really happening so if I set something up that causes some drama, I can react to it accordingly”.

Dirk thinks he’s good at detecting lies but is excited by the chance to tell some as well saying: “It’s not an everyday situation and while I’m probably going to get lied to and they put their lie level to a three, I’ll raise mine to a five”.

Trivia

• It was almost revealed in the show that Dirk is a descendant of the Scottish and French royal families. This was going to be featured in the series but was changed at the last minute before filming started. While Dirk did previously work as a hotel concierge, he had not worked in that position for years during the show's filming, and was working as a professional actor.
