Die Verräter Staffel 1 is the first season of Die Verräter. It airs every Wednesday at 8:15pm on RTL starting from September 20, 2023, although episodes were released a week in advance on RTL's streaming service RTL+ beginning September 13, 2023.
Background[]
On February 13, 2023, it was announced that rights for The Traitors had been sold to three countries: Denmark, Finland and Germany. It was further reported that the All3Media subsidiary Tower Productions would produce the show for RTL in Germany.[1] During RTL's presentation for Screenforce Days on June 13, 2023, some details about the program were discussed: it would be hosted by veteran RTL personality Sonja Zietlow and feature 16 celebrity contestants 'from the worlds of drama, music, sports and journalism' competing in the Château de Béguin, of which three would be selected as Traitors at the start. [2] A sales deck pitched to potential advertisers further revealed that the program would be broadcast over six episodes, with a maximum prize of €50,000 for contestants.[3]
The first official teaser for the show[4] and some reporting on it appeared on August 16, 2023.[5] The official airdate of the first two episodes on RTL was later confirmed as September 20, 2023, with these episodes being uploaded onto RTL's streaming service RTL+ September 13, 2023.[6] The first seven contestants were then revealed on August 28, 2023.[7]
On October 19, 2023 a reunion special was announced featuring some of the contestants, to be aired on RTL's YouTube channel on October 25, 2023, and then on RTL+ on October 27, 2023..[8]

The official aftershow consisted of podcast episodes uploaded as part of the Aftershow – der Reality-TV-Podcast series on RTL+, where recently-eliminated contestants provided more insights into the game.[9]
Unique Characteristics & Twists[]
- Murder in Plain Sight: At the end of Episode 3, there was no Traitors' Conclave. Instead, the Traitors had to select someone they would choose to Murder at a cocktail party, by dropping a vial of 'poison' into their drink.
- Traitors' Ultimatum: At the end of Episode 4, there was only one Traitor left. They had the option of offering an Ultimatum to a Faithful of their choice, who would either be obliged to accept Recruitment or be Murdered otherwise.
- The Bribe: During Episode 5, each contestant took turns to choose someone else in the game they trusted the most. This chain continued until only one contestant was left; they were then offered €9,000 from that previous episodes' unearned winnings to leave the game.
